OTTAWA, April 11, 2003 — The Competition Bureau announced today that Canada's cooperation agreement with Mexico regarding competition law enforcement has come into force, following its approval by the Mexican Senate.
The agreement was signed on November 14, 2001, by ambassadors from both countries, and announced the following day by Canada's Commissioner of Competition Konrad von Finckenstein.
The Competition Bureau is an independent law enforcement agency that promotes and maintains fair competition so that all Canadians can benefit from competitive prices, product choice and quality service. It oversees the application of the Competition Act, the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act, the Textile Labelling Act and the Precious Metals Marking Act.
