Competition Bureau Releases Merger Review Benchmarking and Performance Reports

OTTAWA, June 15, 2001 — The Competition Bureau today released two merger review reports on benchmarking and performance, as part of continued efforts to improve and modernize key merger processes.

The Merger Review Benchmarking Report - (PDF: 842 KB) follows an in-depth study to ensure the Canadian merger review process contributes to a fair and competitive marketplace and that merger review is conducted in an efficient, timely, transparent and predictable manner. The Bureau has already implemented several improvements stemming from the study, including the creation of the Merger Notification Unit to streamline the merger review process, and the development of an internal training program to improve service quality.

The Merger Review Performance Report - (PDF: 59 KB) - June 2001 summarizes the Mergers Branch's performance over a two-year period. The Report provides information on timeliness, workload and funding for merger review and demonstrates overall improvements in key areas.
