Publication of Conformity Continuum Information Bulletin

OTTAWA, June 16, 2000 — The Competition Bureau released today its Information Bulletin describing the Conformity Continuum. The Bulletin explains the Bureau's approach to the administration and enforcement of the Competition Act, Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act, Textile Labelling Act and Precious Metals Marking Act.

Fundamental to the success of the Conformity Continuum approach is the belief that increased compliance will result from improved knowledge and understanding of the legislation and how it is enforced. This Bulletin defines and describes the instruments that comprise the Conformity Continuum and explains how they operate interdependently and in a complementary fashion, to ensure maximum conformity with the law. It also explains the considerations that guide the Bureau's selection and use of these instruments.

The publication of this Bulletin is consistent with the Bureau's goal of ensuring that the business and legal communities are well informed.
