OTTAWA, June 30, 2000 — Based on an agreement with Air Canada, the Competition Bureau announced today that the 60 day period during which Canadian Regional Airlines Limited is to be offered for sale commences today.
In December 1999, the Bureau announced it would not oppose Air Canada's acquisition of Canadian Airlines when Air Canada agreed to sign enforceable Undertakings designed to enhance the competitive climate in the Canadian airline industry. The Undertakings set out the terms pursuant to which Air Canada agreed to offer for sale Canadian Regional Airlines Limited.
The Competition Bureau is an independent law enforcement agency. We contribute to the prosperity of Canadians by protecting and promoting competitive markets and enabling informed consumer choice.
