The Competition Bureau received a complaint in February 2007 alleging that the fibre content representations for some down products were potentially misleading under the Textile Labelling Act (TLA).
A Bureau examination conducted under section 5 of the TLA revealed that pillows advertised on a retailer's Web site as 'white goose down' contained only 10% down. Additionally, the fibre content for a duvet was described as '100% Canadian down'. This is in contravention of section 29 of the Textile Labelling and Advertising Regulations, which prohibits the use of "100%", "pure" or "all" where down or feather is the only textile fibre present.
An official with the company was contacted by the Bureau and the requested changes were made to the website.
The matter was resolved in April 2007.
