Poultry Processing

The Competition Bureau initiated an inquiry in , following a six-resident complaint regarding representations relating to the processing of poultry.

The complainants alleged that consumers were being misled about the ethical treatment of poultry being processed as a result of false or misleading representations communicated in the company’s press releases and on its Web site. Subsection 52(1) and paragraph 74.01(1)(a) of the Competition Act prohibits making materially false or misleading representations to the public.

After examining the information obtained, the Bureau concluded that continuation of the inquiry was not warranted as these representations were no longer being made or do no contravene the Act.

Consequently, the inquiry was discontinued in .
