Moores clarifies advertising to resolve Competition Bureau concerns
OTTAWA, — The Competition Bureau announced today that Moores Clothing for Men has agreed to immediately amend all advertising concerning its national two-for-one designer suit sale.
Moores advertised a "buy one get one free" sale on designer suits without adequately disclosing the fact that the sale applied to select designer suits only. This raised issues under the misleading representations provisions of the Competition Act.
"In these tough economic times, consumers are more concerned than ever in getting value for their money,"
said Andrea Rosen, Deputy Commissioner of Competition. "It is important for advertisers to remember to clearly and conspicuously disclose any limitations or exclusions in their advertisements to ensure that consumers can make informed purchasing decisions."
To resolve the Bureau's concerns, Moores agreed to prominently disclose in its television, web site and in-store signage that the sale applies only to select designer suits.
"The Bureau reminds businesses that we regularly monitor the marketplace to ensure truth in advertising. We are pleased that Moores chose to rectify the problem immediately,"
added Rosen.
