Jeanne Pratt Appointed Special Legal Advisor to Commissioner of Competition

Ottawa, November 17, 2009 — Melanie L. Aitken, Commissioner of Competition, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeanne Pratt as Special Legal Advisor for a two-year term beginning November 23, 2009.

Ms. Pratt is currently a partner with the law firm McCarthy Tétrault LLP. She has advised clients on all aspects of competition law, including mergers, criminal matters, reviewable practices and deceptive marketing practices. Ms. Pratt is recognized as a competition law and litigation specialist.

The Special Legal Advisor provides strategic advice to the Commissioner and other Bureau staff on key files and issues, including the conduct of litigation, and is a member of the Bureau's Senior Management Committee. Clear conflict of interest guidelines have been established for the duration of Ms. Pratt's appointment.
