Rambod Behboodi named Deputy Commissioner, Competition Promotion Branch

John Pecman, Commissioner of Competition, is pleased to announce that Rambod Behboodi will be in the new position of Deputy Commissioner of the Competition Promotion Branch, for a two-year secondment effective November 3, 2014.

As part of the Competition Bureau’s realignment initiative, the Competition Promotion Branch will be created to become the external face of the Competition Bureau. This new branch will comprise what is currently known as the Enforcement Policy & Economic Branch, the Legislative and International Affairs Branch and the Public Affairs Branch. It will be responsible for, among other things, the Bureau’s advocacy efforts, inter-governmental affairs, corporate compliance, international support and communications.

The Commissioner of Competition recently announced a restructure of the Bureau’s branches. The Bureau’s realignment initiative will restructure the Bureau to leverage its current resources and enhance collaboration, with the goal of increasing its impact on the economy. Mr. Behboodi comes to the Bureau from the Department of Finance, where he held the position of General Counsel and Executive Director, General Legal Services since 2009. Prior to this, Mr. Behboodi worked in various government departments, including the Privy Council Office and the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, the Competition Bureau, and in private practice. In addition to his legal counsel role in these departments, he brings a diplomatic background having worked abroad at two Canadian missions.

  • Mr. Behboodi obtained his B.A., J.D. and LL.M from the University of Toronto. He has been a member of the Ontario Bar since 1994.
  • Mr. Behboodi teaches and writes on the World Trade Organization and other international law matters.
