Competition Bureau and Competition Commission of India sign agreement to enhance cooperation in cross-border enforcement

Today, the Competition Bureau signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) that will enhance cooperation between the two agencies and strengthen their ability to address competition enforcement matters that cross borders.

As more business is conducted across global markets, the Bureau is increasingly collaborating with its international counterparts to ensure that markets remain innovative and competitive. International partnerships enhance the impact of the Bureau’s work in ensuring that Canadian consumers benefit from competitive prices and increased product choice, and that Canadian businesses prosper in both domestic and export markets.

As the long-standing economic relationship between Canada and India continues to grow, the agreement provides an important framework for continued cooperation in competition law enforcement, to the benefit of consumers and businesses in both countries.

The MOU will facilitate communication and collaboration between the Bureau and the CCI in a variety of areas, including:

  • notifications of matters that are of mutual interest or concern;
  • the coordination of investigations, merger reviews and enforcement activities;
  • the sharing of best practices and policy developments; and
  • joint education and competition promotion initiatives.

  • The Bureau is committed to enhancing the impact of its competition compliance and promotion efforts through increased collaboration with its international enforcement partners.
