OTTAWA, June 19, 2000 - On September 29, 1999 the Competition Bureau announced the laying of chargesagainst Les Pétroles Irving Inc./Irving Oil Inc., a major supplier of petroleum products, and two gasoline retailers. The accused are alleged to have contravened the price maintenance provisions of the Competition Act.
The preliminary inquiry began on June 13, 2000 with testimony from witnesses. The proceedings were adjourned on June 14, 2000 and are scheduled to reconvene on October 16, 2000, at which time arguments from both parties will be heard.
