Annual Report 1994/95 - Trends to Watch in the Year to Come

Industries in transition will continue to occupy a great deal of our time, as they did last year. In particular, and as I have noted elsewhere in this document, I will be concentrating on the host of issues related to the continued deregulation of the telecommunications sector. How questions relating to the increasing interplay between broadcasting, telecommunications, cable, satellite and phone companies are resolved will have serious implications on the competitiveness of these emerging markets.

The coming year will also see us focusing on the financial services sector.

The trend towards the internationalization of competition law activities is definitely growing and evolving. We will be devoting time and focusing resources on developing the tools we need to continue to deal effectively in that area, especially in cross-border issues.

New and evolving technologies also present challenges related to telemarketing and the internet, and the maintenance of competition in the electronic marketplace.
