General Worksheet

The general worksheet provides an outline to the basic packaging and labelling requirements for prepackaged non-food consumer products subject to the federal Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and Regulations. The following sections are all mandatory considerations in the design of a label. Users of this worksheet should not omit studying any of the topics below.

Note that some products are exempt from the requirements of the Act and Regulations.

Worksheets For Different Types Of Products

Additional worksheets have been tailored for specific kinds of products. Select the example below which best suits your product.

The product is a

• liquid (eg. dish detergent, cologne, engine oil).
• viscous (eg. toothpaste, hand cream, glue).
• aerosol (air freshener, spray paint).

The product is a solid and

• sold by weight (eg. bar soap, cat litter).
• sold by count and packaged so that the consumer cannot easily see the contents (eg. paper clips, computer diskettes, toothpicks, a box of candles).
• packaged so that the consumer can easily identify and count the contents (eg. craft kit with picture of the contents on the box, kitchen utensil in a blister package, batteries).
• sold by the sheet or roll (eg. wrapping paper, toilet paper, facial tissues, address labels).
• sold by length (eg. garden hose, twine).
