Ottawa, May 4, 2006 – The Competition Bureau signed a Cooperation Arrangement with the Korean Fair Trade Commission today to improve competition law enforcement in areas such as cartel investigations and deceptive marketing practices.
Signed at the International Competition Network (ICN) conference in Cape Town, South Africa, the Arrangement equips the Bureau with an additional tool to effectively address anticompetitive activities with cross-border implications.
The Arrangement formalizes the existing relationship between the two agencies, and contains provisions on notification, cooperation and coordination on enforcement activities, exchange of information and avoidance of conflicts. It covers both the competition and consumer laws enforced by each agency and comes into effect immediately. The Bureau has similar arrangements with the competition agencies from Australia, New Zealand, Chile and the United Kingdom.
The Competition Bureau is an independent law enforcement agency. We contribute to the prosperity of Canadians by protecting and promoting competitive markets and enabling informed consumer choice.
