Ottawa, June 5, 2007 – Sheridan Scott, Commissioner of Competition, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lilla Csorgo as Special Economic Advisor to the Commissioner, effective June 25, 2007.
Dr. Csorgo, appointed to a two-year term, is a highly respected economist with extensive experience in competition policy and industrial organization economics.
As holder of the T.D. MacDonald Chair in Industrial Economics, Dr. Csorgo will provide the Commissioner with independent advice on economic matters relating to competition policy and will participate in the economic analysis of significant Bureau investigations. She will also play an important policy and research role within the Bureau.

Lilla Csorgo, who holds a Ph.D. in economics, has worked at the Bureau and in the private sector, and has provided consulting services and assistance to foreign governments in antitrust matters. She has lectured on microeconomics and on transition economies, and has served as Vice Chair of the Economics and Law Committee of the Canadian Bar Association Competition Law Section. Dr. Csorgo joins the Competition Bureau from the Competition Tribunal, where she was appointed a member on December 20, 2004.
The T.D. MacDonald Chair in Industrial Economics was established in 1990. The position is named after the late T.D. MacDonald in honour of his extensive contributions to modern competition law in Canada. Mr. MacDonald was the first Director of Investigation and Research, precursor to the Commissioner of Competition, holding the position from 1950 until 1962.
