Dear Mrs. Gaetz,

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on Industry Canada's consultations on amending the Textile Labelling and Advertising Regulations.

Of particular interest to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is the specific proposal to remove the exemption from bilingual labelling, whereby fibre content and any information directly relating to the fibre content will always be shown in both official languages.

First, I would like to emphasize that the CFIA fully supoorts the federal government's official languages policy. Furthermore, we appreciate the complexity of labelling issues, including the issue of bilingual labelling, as these are issues that the CFIA deals with on an ongoing basis.

I look forward to seeing the results of your consultation, which I understand will be posted on your website. Again, thank you for the opportunity to comment on this important initiative.

Yours sincerely,
