Subject: Amending the textile labelling and advertising regulations

Carole Gaetz:

I have reviewed your discussion paper in light of the needs of the laundry and dry cleaning industry, which is my area of concern. I agree with all the proposals because they should provide more information to the professionals who often process the textiles involved.

I was not entirely clear in my mind whether the proposals concerning ca numbers would make the identifying of manufacturers easier or more difficult. Ease of obtaining contact information is often of great importance, especially to dry cleaners.

Speaking as a consumer, I am in favour of at least an approximation of information about the content of down and feather items. I would not insist on precise details if an honest effort were made to give the relative percentages of the contents.

Just one more comment. Considering the mobility of the Canadian population I feel that an item purchased in a French-speaking area, with a French-only label can very well end up at a dry cleaning shop in Alberta.

Thank you for the opportunity to review these proposed regulations.
