March is Fraud Prevention Month

·  March is Fraud Prevention Month.       ·      Fraud by telephone, Internet and mail is a serious international problem.       ·      Protect yourself by learning to recognize fraud.       ·      There is no typical fraud victim in Canada.       ·      Research shows fraud victims are likely to be educated, informed, relatively affluent and involved in their communities.       ·      Your risk of becoming a fraud victim is not linked to your age, ethnicity, income or geographic location.       ·      If a caller asks you to send money in order to claim a big prize, it’s fraud.       ·      If a scam artist contacts you or you’ve been defrauded, call PhoneBusters at 1-888-495-8501.       ·      The Fraud Prevention Forum is a concerned group of private sector firms, consumer and volunteer groups, government and law enforcement agencies committed to fighting fraud aimed at consumers and businesses.       ·      Canadians need to be more vigilant in the fight against fraud.       ·      Sophisticated scams are being invented daily.       ·      Fighting fraud requires action from all Canadians.       ·      Fraud undermines Canadians’ confidence in the marketplace.       ·      At the international level, the Fraud Prevention Forum model has been adopted around the world.       ·       The Forum organizes a month-long education campaign each March to improve consumers’ awareness and understanding about the dangers of fraud.       ·      FRAUD: Recognize It. Report It. Stop It.
