Archived — Competition Bureau completes review of Labatt’s acquisition of Lakeport
Ottawa, January 16, 2009 — The Competition Bureau has concluded that there is insufficient evidence to challenge the acquisition of Lakeport Brewing Income Fund (Lakeport) by Labatt Brewing Company Limited (Labatt).
After an extensive examination, including consultations with industry experts, external economists, and industry participants, the Bureau has concluded that there is insufficient evidence to establish that the transaction is likely to substantially lessen or prevent competition. The recent receipt of outstanding information from industry participants was an important factor in the decision.
The Bureau takes seriously its mandate to promote and maintain competitive markets on behalf of Canadians," said Melanie Aitken, Interim Commissioner of Competition. "
It is important that we get access to relevant information and have an opportunity to evaluate it before coming to a conclusion."
The Competition Bureau is an independent agency that contributes to the prosperity of Canadians by protecting and promoting competitive markets and enabling informed consumer choice.
