The CA Identification Number is a five digit identification number preceded by the letters CA (ex: CA00000).
Eligibility details
You can apply for a CA Identification Number if you are:
- A Canadian manufacturer of a textile fibre product;
- A Canadian processor of a textile fibre product;
- A Canadian finisher of a textile fibre product; or
- A Canadian engaged in the business of importing or selling any textile fibre product.
It is not required to have a CA Identification Number but it may be used in place of a name and address on the label of textile articles.
If you do not fall within the above-mentioned categories, you must label consumer textile articles with your business name and address. See the Textile Labelling Act, Regulations and Guide for more details.
What you need before you start
You may apply for a CA Identification Number though the Competition Bureau’s online form or by mail.
Each request for a CA Identification Number is reviewed prior to its issuance. The Bureau may contact you by phone to confirm details of your submission. You will then receive a letter, by e mail or mail, informing you of your CA Identification Number.
Cost
The one time payment for the registration fee is $100.00.
You can pay:
- Through the secure online application process, by MasterCard, VISA, American Express or Interac Online.
- By mail, payable by cheque or money order, to the Receiver General for Canada.
Payments in cash are not accepted.

Holders of CA Identification Numbers are responsible for the accuracy of the information in the database and for advising the Competition Bureau, in writing, of any changes.

Applying for a CA Identification Number online
To apply online for a CA Identification Number, follow these easy steps:
- Go to the Online Application form.
- Fill in all mandatory fields marked with an asterisk (*).
- Click “submit and pay” at the bottom of the form.
- Double-check all the information you provided for accuracy.
- If required, you may modify your application details or cancel the submission.
- When ready, click “proceed with the payment”. You will be taken to the secured payment system where further instructions are provided.
- Print your acknowledgement and keep it on file.
- You should receive a response within 5 business days.
